Critics Consensus

Sean Bean tries giving motive and emotion to The Hitcher, but director Dave Meyers is more interested in cheap shocks, and gratuitous gore and torture.

Michael P This movie is boring, annoying, and a real killer of your own engine. Don't waste time, speed past The Hitcher that is this movie. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Michel T Alright, since i just bought (and saw) the original which always been my favorite, decided to re-watch this thing that they dared called a remake, or a reimagining your choice. Point is, I do like Sean in pervious and since but this?? R.H. did it perfectly, why did it had to be messed with? Oh yeah right, the time that producer/director thought he could do every remake possible and get away with it, guess what, not in this one Mr. Bay!! Rated 1.5/5 Stars • Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review jordon a Quite literally the most irritating film I have ever seen from start to finish, not a noteworthy acting performance in the movie accept for Sean Bean I guess if he was told to be the most vexing character in existence, then he got it spot on. The whole thing is just incredibly unfeasible and impossibly ridiculous, thankfully its only an hour and 20 minutes or so, still an hour and 20 I wish I could get back Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/01/24 Full Review Cidal K John Bean is absolutely sinister in this. The truck scene is nine chilling to this day. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review Justin T This is an inferior remake but also it's not a bad film. It's mostly forgettable. It is worth sticking with this one to the ending as the action really does ramp up. It's not a thoughtful movie but instead a thrill ride that looked pretty. That is exactly why I quite liked it. It is serious and that is something that I liked about it, there is no sense of humour! Maybe they could have done something different to distinguish itself from the original, it really feels very unoriginal overall in style and content. The casting isn't as good. Compared to the original I will remember it for actually showing the guy getting ripped in half rather than just implying it. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/24 Full Review Meg G It's hard to re-make a classic like the original hitcher, and they didn't really hit all the marks. it didn't make me feel as scared as the OG did Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Read all reviews
